I received a letter from the APA National office that details a proposed change to the by-laws (constitution) to change the standing and ad hoc committees, reducing them to 7. Some made sense and some I didn't understand. It appears we are dropping the Awards and Seminar Committees?????

Can anyone in the know explain this change so even I can understand it?

I don't want to step out in front of our leadership on this, but in brief, those functions are subsumed under two of the proposed committees. Nothing is being given up. All of the functions have been realigned into 7 Standing Committees instead of the current 15 along functional lines where there is a lot of overlap. It is an attempt to help manage the affairs of the Association in a more efficient and effective way. For more information, contact Nate or Pam.

Thanks Don. That makes sense. We've had too many standing and ad hoc committees for a number of years. It has created unnecessary paperwork for Robbie and Lisa and put a large burden on the BOD members to be the "General Chair" to those many committees. I remember well having three of more committees that I was responsible for and trying to find a suitable chairperson to be responsible for the work of those committees.

If only our federal government could realize less is often much more efficient than more.

Thnaks for the reply. Look forward to seeing you in Texas in September.
